Ten Good Reasons to work from home as a Virtual Assistant

1. Low start up costs. There are not a lot of costs associated with becoming a virtual assistant who works from home. In most cases, a computer, telephone, and printer are sufficient so there is a good chance you already have everything you need. If you’re going to market yourself, you might want to set up a website but if you’re working for a firm your start up costs will be even lower.

2. Ability to choose hours. Virtual assistants set their own schedules. That means you can work around any commitments you already have and make yourself available for your children. For example, you might choose to only work in the mornings or put in an hour or two at different points throughout the day.

3. Be your own boss. A virtual assistant is a partner, not an employee. You will be assigned tasks by your client but you always have the freedom to walk away from a client who is too demanding and find someone else to work with.

4. Stay at home with your children. Many people choose to work from home as a virtual assistant to have more time with their children. Virtual assistants can work while their children are in school and finish up in time to pick them up. Parents of small children can work during napping hours so they never have to miss a minute of watching their kids grow up.

5. No commuting. Personal assistants who work from home do not have transportation expenses. There is no need for a car which means less money spent on fuel and maintenance. It also means you don’t have to waste any time driving from one place to another or sitting in traffic.

6. No business attire related expenses. It’s entirely possible to work from home as a personal assistant in your pajamas. There is no need to spend money on expensive business suits or spend time ironing clothes to look presentable. When you work remotely, you can wear whatever you want.

7. Extra money. Some people work as a virtual assistant from home to supplement their income. If you already have a full-time job, you can do this work in your spare time to make some extra money without having to leave the house.

8. Put your skills to use. Many people have highly specialized skills and feel frustrated when they are not able to put them to use. For example, you may have gone to law school but family commitments keep you from working as a lawyer full time. As a legal virtual assistant, you can put your knowledge to use. This is a great job for anyone who wants to remain in the working world without physically going to an office every day.

9. Set your own rates. As a virtual assistant, you will set your own rates. You don’t have to accept low paying jobs if you don’t want to. You get to decide what you are worth as a virtual assistant.

10. Do something you enjoy. Rather than choosing among the jobs that are presently being offered in the help wanted section of your newspaper, as a virtual assistant you decide what area you want to specialize in and offer your services to clients around the world. This increases the chances of finding satisfying work that you will enjoy doing every day.
