Networking as a VA: Why It’s Important

Networking is an important part of being a virtual assistant. Virtual assistants work from home which means long hours spent working alone. Many people enjoy working independently but it’s also good to have support. Networking with other VAs can help you to stay motivated, share ideas, and even get more clients. Networking with others in the community is also a great way to make your name known and develop more job leads.

Some people view other VAs solely as competition. This is a big mistake. There are plenty of virtual assistant jobs to go around. Having someone who understands the particular challenges you face in your line of work can help you to stay focused and confident. It’s also a great way to share ideas about what works and what does not. It gives you that “water cooler” outlet that other people have at work. No one will understand your job more than someone else who does it.

Many virtual assistants opt to join VA networks in order to stay in touch with fellow virtual assistants. This is a great way to learn from others. Many VAs share leads with one another. Sometimes a VA will get an offer they can’t take on then they pass it on to others, so being part of a network can help you to find more clients.

Networking outside of the virtual assistant community is also important. If you are great at Internet marketing, you may be able to skip this step. However, some VAs want to work with local companies. Going to business networking events is a great way to meet professionals in your area who need your expertise. When you meet local business people, you can show them exactly how you can help them. This can lead to offers and referrals.

Many virtual assistants think of their job as solo work and this couldn’t be further from the truth.  You really are not alone. The virtual assistance industry is growing. You can get training, share your expertise with others, and even make great friends. So get out there and network, whether locally or on the net. You won’t regret it.
