Marketing Your Virtual Assistant Business on Forums & Message Boards

When you want to get the word out about your VA business there are a number of ways to do it. One way is to join message boards and forums. You can join message boards and forums online that consist of other VAs as well as message boards and forums online that consist of your target audience. If you want to be a subcontractor consider joining message boards and forums where VAs congregate, if you want to work directly with the client join message boards and forums where your target market is.

Once you join it’s important that you go about marketing your VA business in the right way.

1) Follow All Forum / Message Board Rules

Read the rules of the message board or forum very carefully to ensure that you know the rules and follow them. The groups with the most rules are the ones that will actually be the most useful. The reason is that groups without rules turn into a spam fest without any discussions of relevance.

2) Be a Resource to Others

Instead of thinking about selling your products or services on a forum or message board think instead about being a resource to others. You want to be very helpful. Answer any questions other people in the group have where you know that you can offer expert advice. Be supportive of others, and let your signature line speak for itself.

3) Create a Good Signature Line

Going with the rules of the forum ensure that you have the best signature line that you can. If you can make your signature line go directly to your About page or a well-made sales letter then you’ll make the most of your signature line. People like to do business with people that they know, like and trust use this opportunity to encourage those feelings.

4) Don’t Get too Personal

A lot of forums and message boards sometimes encourage too much personal sharing. If it’s informal like that, share about your children or your husband and yourself in a positive way. Don’t share the down days. Absolutely do not ever share any discontent about your work or your clients. This is a recipe for disaster. Taking the time to join forums and message boards that are relevant to your work will help you get more clients, advance yourself as an expert in your niche, and help spread the word about your offerings. But, it’s not an over night type solution to getting more work. It takes time, effort and dedication. It’s a long-term strategy that will pay off. Limit your time on message boards, but do spend enough time to let people know you exist.
