Is your environment slowing you down?

Often, work at home virtual assistant moms do not really have the best working environment and it can effect how well you get work done, and even if you work at all. Having a bad work area, that is either dirty, messy, cluttered, the wrong color, or just uncomfortable can cause havoc on your best laid plans. Not only that, a tense environment due to family issues can also cause a lot of problems.

But, you’re not helpless to fix these issues. First, start with whatever it is that you can control. It’s completely free to clean up your work area, and remove any distracting items. Just doing that can create motivation and forward motion in terms of your work. Next, if you can afford it, start buying comfortable furniture for your office.  A decent desk is fine, but a good chair is the most important aspect of your office in terms of comfort. If you have a laptop consider getting and extra keyboard and mouse so that you can work more comfortably with the laptop. If you have a desk top, consider getting an additional monitor to help you work better.

When you are working, sit properly. Your typing teacher (did you have that, or was it keyboarding for you?) was right, your feet should be on the floor, you should be sitting up properly. This will avoid issues with your back, neck, wrists and even your butt. 🙂 I know you know what I mean, if you sit a lot, it’s important to have good posture, and focus on sitting correctly to avoid pain. Not to mention, get up and move around every 90 minutes or so. I like to get up for 10 to 15 minutes and, as fast as I can cleaning up a certain area. I have it planned out for the day. Not only does it keep my home cleaner, it keeps me healthier by not staying in the same seated position for 10 or 12 hours a day.

If you are having family issues, it will take more time to work that out, but you can find ways to deal with it so that you can focus on work. You wouldn’t go to work and complain about your family if you had a job outside the home, so don’t do it during work hours at your work at home virtual assistant business either. Honestly, other than your Mom, no one really wants to listen to those issues, especially no your clients.

So, I’m curious, does your environment slow you down? How? Today, I am inviting you to vent, but do expect a response about how you might change your situation. After all, you’re the only one who can.
